Oddo Fortebracci, the father of Braccio of Montone, was entrusted with the task of reorganising and restructuring Montone\u2019s fortress and defensive structures.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-cfc0249 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"cfc0249\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tIt is considered to have taken place much later than the construction of the city walls; the depiction of Montone at the feet of the <em>Madonna della Misericordia<\/em>, painted by Bartolomeo Caporali in 1482, does not feature it. This gate replaced the old, narrow and inconvenient entrance on the opposite side of the fortress. \t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-5953734 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"5953734\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tThe gate allowed access to one of the main streets of the town, which today is known as Via Roma. It slopes steeply, winding down to the town square.
