Crucifix, Madonna, St. John, St. Joseph of Arimathea (from a Deposition group), 1260-1270
The four sculptures coming from the parish church of St. Gregorio are all that remains of a “Deposition from the cross” group, which surely included Nicodemo’s today dispersed figure.
Similar groups were certainly exposed during ritual ceremonies culminating on Good Friday and their presence is also proved in the performance of sacred Representation of the Passion both inside and more often outside of churches.
